Hey all, I'm a newbie here so take it easy on me! Quick backstory - My best friend since birth's father acquired the 49 from a widowed neighbor in the early 70's. After High School we lost contact for 15 years. Shortly after reuniting I found my friend had completely disassembled every single bolt on the 49 panhead and restored it. It sits in his garage now with one missing piece - the proper intake manifold (or knowlege to make the manifold included with the S&S carb work) to mount the new S&S carb. Years of frustration with his restoration has caused him to lose interest when he is so close to finishing... I would like to find this part for him (and possibly install it for him) as a gift. The stock manifold has large nuts on either side (similar to the drain under a sink) that goes to each cylinder. The new intake doesn't and appears slightly shorter, but to me it looks like there are brass keeper rings on the original manifold that keep these nuts in place, maybe sweat fitted? The manifold that came with the S&S carb kit looks the same to me but without these rings and the nuts. Is there an adapter or a whole new manifold or something that will get this carb on that motor so we can fire that baby up and I can see my friend smile again? I'm going to try and get over there this weekend and take a pic of the two manifolds to post, but am hoping someone here knows what I'm talking about. Thank you so much in advance for any info, pointers, or links you can provide me!
